FAQ

  1. What is Better Work Together? Better Work Together is a platform for facilitated online courses designed and led by practitioners, for practitioners. It started as a book (also called Better Work Together) and we wanted to help bring the reflections and learning to life by offering collaborative training for people all over the world, interested in practicing new ways of working.

  2. How do I decide which course is best for me? We recommend you read through the course description and watch the course introduction video to get a sense of the course content as well as the facilitator. It’s also worth considering how much time and effort you’re able and willing to commit. Each course lists key information like the course length and effort – some courses require more reading and participation time than others. If you have any questions about whether a course is right for you or not, don’t hesitate to contact us.

  3. What is the learner experience like?
All of our courses are highly participatory, as opposed to click-and-watch or lots of talking heads. You’ll get the opportunity to learn with an expert course leader who is also a practitioner in their field and get input and coaching on your real-life challenges. Most importantly, you’ll get to try out practices and tools you can use back in your organisation or community straight away. The format is live discussions and exercises with your course leader and cohort via Zoom (a web conferencing tool), complemented with course materials like essential reading/watching/listening and further resources. Finally, there will be assignments to help you put into practice what you’ve learned.

  4. How big are the course cohorts?
This depends on the course, but generally course cohorts range from 5 to 20 people.

  5. How can I pitch this to my manager/organisation – what are the benefits of me participating in one of these courses?
The biggest benefits of participating in a Better Work Together course are:
    1. Learning future-of-work skills from the world’s leading practitioners, innovators and thinkers.
    2. Experiencing tools and practices that build capacity and supercharge your teams. These are not “click-and-learn” courses but rather highly experiential and practical learning events that will help you level up in your work and life.
    3. Being part of and learning from a cohort of like-minded people from all over the globe.

  6. Do you offer discounted course prices (e.g. for students, public sector companies, non-profits…)?
We have discounts for people and organizations with small budgets. Contact us if that’s you! Also, we often have early bird discounts for those who sign up early so check if there’s a discount code on the course information page before you check out.

  7. What types of payment do you accept?
The platform currently only takes PayPal. However, if you’d like to pay by bank transfer, please contact us.

  8. What if I can’t make some of the course session dates?
We recommend only signing up for a course if you can make all of the weekly sessions. If you can only make some sessions, you won’t get the full experience of the course and it will also be disruptive for your other cohort members. If during the course something comes up and you’re unable to attend a session, contact the course leader as soon as you can so you can decide together what the best course of action is.

  9. What do I do if I need to cancel? Can I attend a future course instead?
Our courses are based on mutual commitment. We commit to hosting you in a small cohort of fellow learners and creating an experience that delivers on the promises of the course. In return, we ask you to commit to spending the time, money and energy it takes to engage with the course and contribute to others in the sessions.

Of course life happens so we understand that plans can change, so we’ve tried to create a refund policy that respects you, the students and our mutual commitments.

Refund: If you choose to withdraw from the course, you can receive a refund any time between the day we receive the money and thirty-one days before the course starts.

  10. My WiFi isn’t great, will that be a problem?
Since our courses require participants to use video and audio on Zoom calls, we recommend that if possible, you plan in advance to make sure you can be in a location with strong WiFi where there isn’t too much background noise. You’ll be participating in discussions and exercises in virtual breakout rooms so a weak internet connection often makes it difficult or even impossible to do that. It is possible to access Zoom on your mobile device, but the functionality is limited so we recommend ensuring you have access to a computer or laptop for the sessions. You can test your WiFi here.

  11. What is Zoom and how do I use it?
Zoom is a video conferencing application which means we can host participatory sessions online, using video and audio and features like breakout rooms which enable cohorts to break out into smaller groups for discussions and exercises. You can sign up for free here. To learn more about how to use it, there are plenty of useful video tutorials on the Zoom website here. If you have any technical questions, feel free to contact us and we’ll be happy to help.

  12. What tools do I need to use for the courses?
You’ll need to download Zoom (a video conferencing app) to participate in the course sessions, which you can do here. Course materials will usually be either in formats such as PDFs or Microsoft documents, or Google documents. Some courses also involve cohort discussions on Slack. Your course leader will let you know the different tools and platforms used for the course when you sign up. If you have any technical questions, feel free to contact us and we’ll be happy to help.

  13. Can I get some one-on-one coaching with the course leader?
Provided the course leader is available and willing, for sure! Get in touch and we’ll connect you with either the course leader, or another member of our team with the experience, skills and expertise you’re looking for.

  14. How do I contact you about getting additional support/consulting/coaching in my organisation or community?
We’d love to help. Contact us and we’ll connect you with either the relevant course leader, or another member of our team with the experience, skills and expertise you’re looking for.

  15. Can you design and facilitate a bespoke course inside my organisation?
This is something we’re often able to do. Get in touch to let us know your needs and we can take it from there.

  16. I’m interested in becoming a course leader – either with my own course or on one of your existing courses. What do I do?
